EDUCATION LEASES
EXTENSION OF TERM By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, July 26. Provision for the extension of lease terms in respect of certain education reserves is contained in the Education Reserves Amendment Bill introduced in the House of Representatives to-day and read a first time. The Bill, which extends the application of Section 2 of the Education Reserves Amendment Act, 1931, was explained by the Hon. E. A. Ransom.
Section 2 of the Act, he said, made temporary prevision for an extension, with the approval of the Minister of Education, of the term for a period not exceeding five years of the lease of a high school reserve or other education reserve or any endowment of the University of New Zealand, which was due to expire at any time not later than December 31 of this year. Having regard to the present unsettled conditions affecting a number of these properties, it has -been considered expedient to extend this date to December 31, 1936. to enable extensions of leases due to expire before that date to be granted where such a course is equitable.
