Geraldine No. The 5 draw for the High School Old Girls’ Club tournament this evening is: Ex-players v. Citizens, Basketball Girls v. Clandeboye Men, Temuka School Staff v. Footballers B. Perhaps the only surprise of last Thursday’s games was the defeat of Winchester at the hands of Pleasant Point in the senior B grade. This illustrates the uncertainty of the game, and has resulted in a most interesting position arising in the competition. On the last occasion that High School and Geraldine met, the School suffered its first defeat since entering the association’s competitions. Kerrytown had the misfortune two weeks ago to lose through illness among the players, and this is more apparent now that the team has had its bye and dropped into third place on the table. Although reports from that district are not very favourable, it is to be hoped that the club can field a team on Thursday. Advice has come to hand that the Waimate Sub-association is prepared to entertain Temuka for the annual senior and junior representative matches on August 2. No doubt the Emergency Committee will approve this date, and that will mean that another junior representative trial will be held shortly. The positions of the teams on the championship tables at present are:— Senior.

GENERAL NEWS. The condemned portion of the old macrocarpa hedge at the Temuka Cemetery has now beer, removed and a temporary post and wire fence replaces it. Although some of the goods and produce brought in for the Mayor’s Relief Committee’s shop day remain, much of the surplus that remained after the special effort last week has now been disposed of. Clothes and other articles suitable for distribution, have been given out to those in need. “ROMAN SCANDALS.” Eddie Cantor in “Roman Scandals” comes to Temuka to-day and Thursday. Ruth Etting, Gloria Stuart and David Manners appear with him in the pop-eyed comedian’s fourth annual musical comedy for Samuel Goldwyn, succeeding his “The Kid From Spain” of last year. Samuel Goldwyn has maintained his tradition for lavish production, beautiful girls and lilting music. A 1 Dubin, Harry Warren and L. Wilfe Gilbert have given Eddie three new tunes and written a plaintive ballad for Ruth Etting Busby Berkeley staged the big dance spectacles. The Temuka Municipal Band will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, August 7, at 8 p.m. in the Fire Brigade rooms.
