Mr F. W. McCaw, of Kurow, left Timaru yesterday on a visit to the United States. Mr H. J. Eaton, of the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, left Timaru yesterday on transfer to Blenheim. Mr D. Eric Ireland, inspector for the Standard Insurance Company at Wellington, has been transferred to Hastings. Advice that Bishop West-Watson had been re-appointed as a nominee of the Governor-General on the Canterbury University College Council has been received by the council. Sir Robert Anderson left InvereargiT for Wellington yesterday on a hurried business trip to Sydney. He will attend meetings of directors of AngloSwiss Milk Co. (Australia) Ltd., of which he is chairman. Mr A. F. Nicoll has been appointed Life master at the Canterbury College School of Art, vice Mr L. H. Booth. The appointment, which was made by the University Council on Monday will take effect on July 1. Mr James Murray, manager of the Kaikoura branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has received notice of his transfer on promotion to Wairoa North. Mr Murray has been manager of the Kaikoura branch for the last 10i years. He will be succeeded by Mr J. C. Smith, of Blenheim. A presentation of an oak clock was made to Mr M. K. Mara, of Frankton, before his departure to take un the appointment of conductor to the Westport Municipal Band. The Mayor. Mr J. R. Fow, said Mr Mara had ben a keen and efficient bandsman and his 11 years’ service to Hamilton was appreciated. Messrs W. A. Hislop, R. Maclachlan, R. C. Nurie, H. Montague, V. D. Hewer (Wellington), J. A. Davis and A. L. Joyce (Christchurch) are staying at the Grosvenor. Messrs V. G. Cameron (Christchurch), G. W. Lanham, G. North, J. O'Brien and W. Anderson (Dunedin) are registered at the Empire. Latest arrivals at the Dominion include Messrs E. P. Davis, R. G. Pilkington, M. Kenny (Christchurch), H. G. McCartie (Auckland), T. T. Cuddle and A. M. Lawn (Dunedin). A cable message from Sydney announces that among the visitors to the Victoria Park Trotting Club’s meeting at Sydney yesterday, were Mr L. Woo, executive director of the Industrial Bank of China, and Mr Peter Muraour, managing director of the Metropolitan Sporting Association, Shanghai, who have been buying trotting horses for shipment to China for the inauguration of night trotting. They have bought 150 horses and 15 capable drivers have been engaged to establish the sport.
