UNREST IN INDIA

MANY INJURED BY BOMB EXPLOSION. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received June 26, 8.5 p.m.) CALCUTTA, June 26. Seven persons, including high municipal officers, and several children, were injured at Poona last night when a bomb intended for Mahatma Gandhi, fell among a crowd assembled to witness his arrival at the municipal buildings to receive a civic address. The bomb was flung from a balcony, when a car, presumed to be Gandhi's, stopped. One wheel was blown off. Police surrounded the building and arrested five people. Gandhi arrived seven minutes later, but was not informed of the incident till he entered the hall. Gandhi left later for Ahmedabad. It is believed that the crime was the work of orthodox Hindus, who bitterly opposed Gandhi’s social campaign.
