GUILTY OF ASSAULT
FINDING IN ORINGI CASE By Telegraph—Press Association NAPIER, May 23. The trial was continued in the Supreme Court to-day of Stanley Jordan Madden, Ronald Herbert Floyd, Robert Floyd and another juvenile whose name was ordered to be suppressed, on a charge .that on March 31 at Oringi, near Dannevirke, being armed with an offensive weapon, a sixchambered revolver, the assaulted, with intent to rob, W. J. Cochrane, R. G. Russell and R. Effingham. Alternative counts were robbery and assault. The defence was that the whole affair was a joke. Two of the accused stated on oath that they had no intention of committing assault or taking money. His Honour: When did the laugh start? One of the accused:-At the end. It -was admitted that the scheme was arranged the night before the occurrence. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of assault, and prisoners were remanded for sentence.
