MEETING OF RUGBY CLUB GRADING OF TEAMS Mr W. H. Jackson presided over a large attendance of members of the Geraldine Football Club on Monday evening when the question of grades was discussed. The question arose owing to the junior and fourth grade teams having been short of players on Saturday. The whole subject of grades and teams was fully threshed out, the juniors producing' evidence to show that they could field a team without difficulty in -the future. After discussion it was decided, on the motion of Mr J. S. Lorimer, to continue playing in four grades, senior, junior, fourth and fifth grades, as at present. Meeting of Committee. A meeting of the committee was attended by Messrs W. H. Jackson, F. Timms, J. S. Lorimer, J. Cairns, R. Hayes, H. South, P. Callanan, H. Wilson, J. Moyle. T. Hutt, D. C. McKechnie and A. H. Stringer. An apology was received from Mr D. Callanan. Mr P. Hendry was elected an associate member. The secretary was instructed to notify the Union that the gate takings for the Geraldine v. Pleasant Point match last Saturday amounted to £3/7/6. The Club decided to enter one team in each grade in the seven a-side tour - nament on June 4. Thanks were extended to the committee of the combined Football and Basketball Clubs for conducting the recent combined annual dance. The following are the teams for Saturday:— Senior v. Under Mrs John Scott, the energetic committee which has been conducting an appeal in the interests of the Geraldine District Nurse Committee’s funds concluded its efforts yesterday with a successful sale of work in St. Mary’s Parish Hall. The fact that the services of the District Nurse are much appreciated throughout the district was borne out by the splendid response to the appeal. Splendid organisation resulted in well-stocked stalls containing stocks of all descriptions which found ready purchasers. The helpers at the light luncheon and afternoon tea rooms spent a busy time. The following were the stallholders: Drapery: Mesdames W. H. Broad, D. Day and Boutherway. Flower: Mrs S. Webb and Miss T. Rule. Woollies: Mesdames C. S. Davies, l. O. Sherratt and M. Anderson. Callanan, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, is on relieving duty at the Ashburton branch of the bank. HOCKEY. The Geraldine County Hockey SubAssociation’s competitions will commence this afternoon. Messrs W. Searle and F. Smith (Temuka) will referee the women's match, Winchester v. Temuka, at Temuka. Messrs H. J. Bowkett and A. G. Bryant will referee the Southern v. Northern game at 2.15 p.m. and Messrs H. Cowie and C. S. Davies will control the Union v Temuka game at 3.15 p.m., both being played at Geraldine. GOLF. The annual meeting of the Secondary Ex-Pupils’ Association will be held in the Parish Hall Guild Room on Tuesday, at 8 p.m. All ex-servicement are invited to attend the Returned Soldiers’ Annual Reunion to be held in the Town Hall at 8 o’clock to-night.
