NEW WOODEN JEWELLERY
Last year we had the innovation of wooden jewellery gently insinuated on a hesitating feminine world. This year the experimentalists have vastly improved on their original models, and recently staged a not unattractive display of the latest novelties in wood adornment. The “exhibits” were adroitly laid out on blue satin settings and made a really brave show. Enamel, gilt and chromium are largely employed to brighten the necklaces and *bangles with which a modern realm of fashion is now invited to beautify itself in less expensive material than precious metals and gems. The necklaces particularly might look quite attractive when worn by the right people with just the right clothes. But the wooden jewellery fashion hopes to rope in masculine vanity, too. These are watch chains made of linked bamboo joined by metal strips and also some wooden cuff-links. One advantage of this cult is that in any sudden crisis the wearer can always promptly “touch wood.”
