HINTS FOR THE HOME
Handy hints that will lighten the task for the busy housewife:— To remove odours from bottles, half fill with cold water, and add a dessertspoon of mustard. Shake vigorously, allow to stand for a while, rinse in clear water. A useful kitchen rack can be made quite easily by screwing half-a-dozen brass cup hooks into an ordinary wooden coat-hanger. On it you can hang many useful trifles that would otherwise be mislaid. Rust in kettles can be treated successfully with borax. Put a small handful in the kettle, nearly fill with water and boil. This will also clean out any fur that may have collected. Simply rinse after treatment and the kettle can be used as usual. Use white pumicestone for removing stains from the top of your deal kitchen table and you will get a smooth, clean surface. Pumicestone also will remove discolourations on the hands from peeling vegetables and other kitchen tasks. Discoloured knife handles can be cleaned with bathbrick mixed with vinegar. Allow the vinegar to dry before removing with a clean cloth. Remember that soda discolours aluminium.
