VISIT TO TARANAKI By Telegraph—Press Association HAWERA, May 17. The Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) commenced his Taranaki tour to-day, visiting the Tangahoe deviation and the Auckland-We'-lington highway near Hawera. The roadwork Is estimated to cost £IO,OOO. The county sought a higher subsidy than the £2 for £1 suggested. Mr Forbes also visited the Taranaki Co-operative Dairy laboratory at Hawera, where a request was made for a grant. This evening Mr Forbes was entertained by the Rotary Club, when he was welcomed by the Mayor. Local body and dairy representatives were also present. Mr Forbes emphasised the importance of science in raising the quality of produce to meet competition. WESTPORT, May 17. En route to Greymouth from Blenheim, Mr Coates called in at Westport and was met by the Mayor and Councillors and members of other local bodies, and given a hearty welcome. A few requests were made concerning matters affecting the welfare of the district, and were noted by the Minister.
