VIOLENT EXPLOSION

SHED WRECKED. By Telegraph—Press Association GRETMOUTH, May 16. The township of Cobden was startled by a terrific explosion that demolished the Harbour Board's shed at the end of the breakwater. Mr D. A, Milne, engineer to the Greymouth Harbour Board, stated that there was no doubt but that the shed was deliberately set fire to. The expiosion was probably due to a few loose sticks of gelignite that had been left in the shed, as explosives were used there from time to time. Following two previous explosiofls in the district—in one case a bomb was used—the opinion was freely held that both the fire and explosion were caused deliberately Investigations by the police reveal, however, that the fire started underneath the shed. The lock on the door vas found to be intact after the fire died down.
