VICAR DEPOSED
BISHOP TAKES CONTROL OF PARISH. By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, May 2. The living of the parish of St. Andrew, Cambridge, was declared vacant as from noon yesterday, when the Bishop of Waikato (the Rev. C. A. Cherrington) took control. The Bishop’s first action as actinvicar of the parish was to address' a meeting of parishioners last evening. Several hundred parishioners, including many from the outlying parts of the parish, attended the meeting. The Rev. G. G. Bell (the deposed vicar), was not present. The Bishop said that he could not call the Board of Nominations together to appoint a new vicar for there was insufficient money available to pay him. His suggestion to the vestry would be that he (the Bishop) should carry on the work of the parish, for from three to six months. The period would depend on how long it would take the vestry to put things in order. There would be no cost to the parish. The Bishop said he did not want the period to be long, because he had plenty of other work.
