IMPORTANT TALKS IN LONDON
VISIT BY ITALIAN MINISTER DISARMAMENT ISSUE REVIEWED British Official Wireless (Received April 25, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, April 24. The present situation regarding disarmament was the main subject discussed in the conversations which Signor Suvlch (Italian Under-Secre-tary for Foreign Affairs) and the Italian Ambassador (Signor Grandi) had to-day at the Foreign Office with Sir John Simon (Secretary of Foreign Affairs) and Captain Anthony Eden (Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs), Sir Robert Vansittart (Permanent Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs), and Lord Stanhope (Parliamentary Secretary for War). To-night Signor Suvich will be the guest at a dinner at the Inner Temple. The diplomatic conversations will be continued to-morrow. TRADE PACTS. FRANCO-BRITISH NEGOTIATIONS British Official Wireless RUGBY, April 23. Sir John Simon gave a dinner at the Foreign Office on behalf of the Government. in honour of Signor Suvich. The guests included Mr MacDonald and many other Ministers, the Italian Ambassador and staff, and many leading figures in political and official life.
GERMANY’S LATEST MOVE. COMMISSIONER OF DISARMAMENT APPOINTED. United Press Association—By Electric T el egraph—Copyright (Received April 25, 11.10 p.m.) BERLIN, April 24. President von Hindenburg has appointed an ex-Hussar and an ex-busi-nessman, Herr Joachim von Ribbentrop, as Commissioner of Disarmament. Herr von Ribbentrop says that his task is to pave the way for an armament convention, which on the basis of equality would give peace to Europe and restore a feeling of safety and trust, which is necessary for the recovery of economic life. He added: “The primitive right of self-defence and equality cannot be denied Germany.”
