STEERING ROD BREAKS
SERVICE CAR GOES OVER BANK. By Telegraph—Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, April 25. Somersaulting once after it left the road in Awakino Valley a service car came to rest on its wheels a few feet from the river yesterday, four passengers and the driver having a remarkably fortunate escape. Only one passenger. Miss C. Morris, of England, received injury, she being cut on the left side of the head by glass from the windows of the car, all ,-f which were broken, but after receiving attention she was able to proceed by a later car to her destination, the Waitomo Caves. The steering rod of the car broke when the driver,. A. J. Harvey, was about to pull the vehicle round a comer. The car failed to respond and plunged over the bank. It somersaulted once, landed on its wheels and was stopped by dense bushes after having fallen 15 feet. The car was badly damaged.
