PROBLEM OF TARIFFS
HAS BRITAIN MADE DEMANDS STORY CONTRADICTED IN OFFICIAL CIRCLES United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, March 23. Mr Dynes Fulton, vice-chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board has arrived in London. He said that a reduction of tariffs on British goods imported into New Zealand was urgently needed. Producers, exporters and also importers of British goods were making a strong effort to secure a radical reduction of tariffs which was vital to the future of the Dominion. He hoped that the next session of Parliament would see a change in tariffs. Official New Zealand circles are surprised at Mr Dynes Fulton’s statement in view of Great Britain’s recent rejection of New Zealand’s tentative proposal to allow British goods a free market in the Dominion in return for the free entry of New Zealand produce into Great Britain. After the Ottawa agreements expire, Great Britain, despite the offer, is determin?:l, in the interests of its own farmers, to regulate the imports of New Zeuland and other Dominion produce.
