PLEASANT POINT
THE RUGBY YEAR LOSS OF £l3 SHOWN At the annual meeting of the Football Club the president, Mr T. Kelliher, presided over a fair attendance of members. The secretary read the report and balance-sheet, which showed that a successful year had been experienced. The senior team had performed very well, and had finished third in its grade. Representative honours had been attained by E. Ryan, C. Cartwright, N. Halstead, R. Gliddon and F. Thomson. The annual game with Albion had been played in Christchurch, and friendly home and home games had been played with the sister senior club, Geraldine. Transport difficulties had been very acute, and it had been difficult for players to secure leave from their employment to play in many cases. The balance-sheet showed a loss of £l3 on the year’s activities. Gate takings had been rather disappointing. On the motion of the president, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. A comprehensive vote of thanks was passed to all who had helped to make the season a success. Election of Officers. The following officers were elected:— Patroness, Miss M. Wall; Patron, Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P.; president, Mr T. Kelliher; vice-presidents, re-eleeted; club captain and transport officer, Mr A. Oborn; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr G. W. Wakefield; hon. assistant secretary, Mr J. Dossett; general committee, Messrs J. Dossett, C. Stewart, S. Baxter, A. Oborn, W. Crawford, F. Malcolmson, A. Easterbrook, A. Saunders, C. Cartwright, president and secretary; emergency committee, Messrs J. Dossett, A. Oborn and secretary. It was decided to support the granting of power for the representative of the Referees’ Association on the Management Committee to vote, and to oppose the proposal to take 50 per cent, of country “gates,” which motions will come up for consideration at the South Canterbury Rugby Union’s annual meeting. The matter of arranging an opening game was left to the committee. Subscriptions were fixed at 5/- for senior and 2/6 for other grades. It was agreed to try to devise some means of reducing transport costs for players.
