MOTOR-CYCLE CLUB

HILL CLIMBING CONTEST. The South Canterbury Motor-Cycle Club’s run to Kelcy’s Bush on Sunday I was attended by more than 35 riders, | and a . umber of Waimate residents, who travelled to the resort by car. The Timaru party, numbering 17, left town about 10 a.m., and by lunch time they were joined by another 20 motorcyclists. Competiticn in both the hillclimbing contest on a course which has now been pegged out permanently, and on which the timing gear has been set, was exceptionally keen. The principal hill climb for the Whitehead-Martin Rose Bowl was won by T. King (Sunbeam) in 12 l-ssecs, D. Wood (Ariel) being second in 13 seconds, and C. Fowler (A.J.S.) third in 13 l-ssecs. A smaller contest for machines of the 350 c.c. class was won by H. Barbour (Velocette) in 14 2-ssecs, G. King (Sunbeam) being second in 15 seconds. In a special attempt to create a record for the hill. C. Fowler covered the course in 11 3-ssecs. This was challenged by T. King, who registered similar time in a special attempt. The outing was held in dull weather with intermittent drizzling rain, which set in properly just after the completion of the contests.
