OBITUARY
MR J. B. HACKWORTH. By Telegraph—r .-ess Association WELLINGTON, December 9. The death occurred at Khandallah of Mr James Brooke Hackworth, an old and well-known resident of Wellington. Mr Hackworth was bom in London in 1853. He was educated at Nelson College and Wellington College. Joining the Post and Telegraph Department as a youth, he subsequently entered the service of Dalgety and Co. at Dunedin, and went over to the Union Steam Ship Company when it took over certain shipping business for Dalgetys. Mr Hackworth was for a time In the offices of the Union Co. in Dunedin, Christchurch and Tauranga. In recent years he acted as clerk of the Native Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, and held severaj positions in the Native Department, including that of Superintendent of Maori Councils. He leaves a widow and three sons.
