PLUNKET SOCIETY

TIMARU BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Timaru branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday. Present—Mesdames F. F. A. Ulrich (in the chair), C. S. Hammond, H, J. Brewer, F. J, Paterson, C. Hall, C. W. Wood, V. C, Meehan, F. Lewis, H. Harris, M. A, Raymond, D. B. Shand, J. D. H. Buchanan, and H. Coxhead.

In the absence of Mrs W. Raymond, president, Mrs Ulrich thanked all the helpers and collectors for their willing assistance on Rose Day, and said she thought all members would agree that the 'effort had been successful, and the public had again responded generously to the appeal. A vote of thanks was passed to the following for assistance:—Messrs Sara, Runciman, Priest and Holdgate, Shortland for loan of chairs and tables; Gilmore's and Herron for donations, and the Toe H.

The treasurer reported that some later subscriptions had come to hand, and had been duly acknowledged. Mrs D. Cronin was elected a member of committee to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mrs Mullins.

The winner of the “stockings” competition was Mrs Loughnan. It was decided to send a letter to Mrs O. Hutchinson expressing the committee’s sympathy in her son’s illness. Nurse's Report. The number of new cases, both town and country, was as follows: Breast fed babies 22, artificially fed 5; total 27. Visits to rooms—Adults 446, babies 321, older children 72; total 839. Visits to homes—Old cases 182, new cases 39; total 221. Influenzal colds are very prevalent among both babies and older children. We wish to thank Miss M. Coughlan and the Otipua Women's Institute for the generous gift of wollen singlets for needy cases. The Fareora Girl Guides were given a written test on Plunket Babycraft, all passing the examination satisfactorily. The lectures were given by Mrs Hoskins of Pareora.
