SCHOOL CONCERT.
A new phase of education was introduced into the local school on Thursday night with the advent of a concert party from Timaru. The school committee worked hard to put the social building in shape for the concert and dance. Messrs Brosnahan, Cargo, F. Smith, Fitzgerald and Kennedy rendering valiant service, while Mesdames Brosnahan, Williams and Miss Wick, looked after the supper. The ladies of the district ably assisted, and a willing band of helpers made arrangements run smoothly. After the repast the floor was cleared for dancing to music supplied by Mrs Richards. Mr G. Horwell was master of ceremonies. Mr F. Smith deputy-chairman, on behalf of the schooi committee and residents, thanked the Timaru artists for their kindness in coming out and assisting to swell the committee’s funds, and also praised the audience for so ably responding to the call. The following was the programme:— Folk dance. “Old Mole,” Seadown pupils (G. Brosnahan, M. O'Connor, M. Edgar, L. Edgar. A. Cargo, C. Kennedy); song, Miss Arnold; clog dance, Misses Plever and McKay; violin solo, Mr Matthews; song, Mr Firkin; duet in character. Misses Lyne; national dance, Misses Jacobs and Oliphant; song, Miss Grant; tap dance, Miss Plever; song, Mr Campbell; monologue, Miss Plever; vocal duet, Messrs Campbell and Firkin; Irish Reel, Misses McKay, Plever. Oliphant and Jacobs; item. Miss McDonald; the accompanists were Misses McDonald, Brehaut, Lyne and Mr McLeod. Extras for the danco were played by Miss Atley.
