ITALY’S WARNING TO HITLER
DEFENCE OF AUSTRIA’S INDEPENDENCE VIRTUAL ULTIMATUM TO STOP INTERFERENCE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 7, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, November 7. "The Daily Herald’s” diplomatic correspondent states that a private message from Signor Mussolini to Herr Hitler informed the Nazi leader that Italy had decided to march troops into Austria, if Herr Hitler made any move to annex Austria. General Goering, as the result, is making a post-haste flight to Rome to confer with the Duce; Goering also receiving a warning that German aggression was on the verge of embroiling Italy and Jugo-Slavia in war. “The Daily Herald” adds: Signor Mussolini has already received from Dr. Dollfuss permission to send troops to Austria if the Nazis cross the frontier. An Italian army corps has been moved nearer the frontier. This has set the Little Entente in ferment. The Jugo-Slavian army of 180,000 will be mobilised if the Italians cross the Austrian border. Herr Hitler has now ordered the Legion of ex-Austrian Nazis, under German leadership to retire into Bavaria from the Austrian frontier. ARROGANCE OF NAZIS. INTERFERENCE IN DANZIG. Rosting telephonically communicated with the Secretary-General, M, Avenol, fully reporting an incident concerning the arrest of three Danzig journalists, because they complained direct to the League of Nations High Commissioner, instead of the Danzig Senate, which the Nazis control. HURRIED VISIT TO ROME. MOVEMENTS OF NAZI MINISTER. United Press Association—Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright ROME, November 6. General von Goering went by aeroplane from Berlin on a surprise visit to Signor Mussolini, with whom he had a short interview in the evening. He will have a longer conversation to-morrow. It is understood that they will review the whole European situation, with a view to solving the difficulties due to Germany’s withdrawal from the League of Nations and Disarmament. It is known that Signor Mussolini regards it as useless for the Powers to attempt a Disarmament Convention in Germany’s absence.
