GENERAL ELECTION IN ULSTER
POLLING DAY FIRST OF DECEMBER SUPPRESSING INTRIQUE IN BELFAST United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 6, 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 6. The Northern Ireland Parliament will be dissolved during the present week. Nominations of candidates will close on November 20, and the elections will probably be held on November 30. All the Unionists seek re-election. They are also contesting two Independent, and one Socialist Seats. Lawlessness Raises its Head. Following the banning of a meeting in Smithfield Square, Belfast, as a protest against the detention in Belfast gaol of Republican Army suspects, the police made repeated baton charges on the crowd amid shouts of: “Up Republic! Up, De Valera.” The police arrested the chairman and also a member of the Board of Guardians, and three others. Several were injured. Armoured cars subsequently patrolled the streets.
