“MARRY OR RESIGN”
FASCIST ADVICE TO BLACK SHIRT OFFICIALS. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright ROME, November 5. “Marry or resign,” is Signor Mussolini’s orders to all bachelors holding executive positions in the Fascist Party. Signor Mussolini is always insistent that party leaders should follow his own example in raising a large family. He even persuaded some of his own reluctant Cabinet members to marry. The order is doubtless in pursuance of the hint previously cabled. The Fascist Party lists now being prepared for seats in the municipalities, Legislative Assembly, and Senate, exclude bachelors, many of whom in the present Parliament are hurriedly seeking brides in the hope of winning the Duce’s favour. It will be recalled that Signor Mussolini’s first marriage “drive,” made through a bachelor tax > devoted to maternity hospitals, proved such a crushing burden that many bachelors sought refuge in matrimony. Signor Mussolini has nominated four generals and four admirals to the Senate, removing them from the active list, thus speeding up the promotion of juniors.
