Mr A 8. Burgess has been elected President of the Wanganui Automobile Association. Mr E. Buchanan has been elected ’president of the Ashburton Chamber of Commerce. Mr N. H. Graham has succeeded Mr E. J. G. Stringer as senior inspector of scaffolding for New Zealand. Mr Charles Blake, who is leaving New Plymouth for Australia, was tendered a farewell concert at which h* was presented with an illuminated address and a wallet of notes. Mr G. M. Valentine, manager of th* dairy factory at Massey College, who has been appointed assistant to th* inspector of Ney Zealand dairy produce in London, was entertained by the staff last week and presented with a handsomely ornamented clock. Mr W. Easton, manager of th# "Otago Daily Times'' Company, Dunedin, who has been on a visit to the Old Country, was to have left London on Friday last on his return to New Zealand. Mr P. Everett (Riverside Road, Otsborne) has been successful in securing a national (N.Z.) certificate In fruit culture awarded by the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture. Mr Everett passed the necessary examination with honours, and also has the distinction of being the first person in the Dominion to be awarded this certificate, which is the highest award In fruit culture obtainable In New Zealand. The Rev. Charles W. Atkinson. M.A, LLX>., has been appointed principal of the Methodist Ladles’ College, Adelaide. Dr. Atkinson, who is a graduate of the University of Melbourne, was granted the degree of doctor of literature in 1918 for a thesis on “The Philosophy of Descartes ’’ After the death of Dr. W. H. Fltchett, Dr. Atkinson acted as principal of the Methodist Ladies' College, Melbourne, for about a year, and he has been closely associated with that school for many years.
