WINCHESTER
ST. JOHN’S LADIES’ GUILD. On Friday a fair and social evening, organised by the St. John’s Ladies’ Guild, in aid of the church funds. There was an excellent attendance, and the function proved a great success. The stalls all presented a very attractive appearance with their gay decorations. The stallholders were kept busy all the evening, and all reported good sales. The takings amounted to more than £22. The stallholders were-—Work: Miss M. Barker and Miss Houston: Cake. Mesdames T. H. Langford, J. A. Paterson and J. Philp: jumble. Mesdames J C. D. A. Pearce. G. South and Miss K. Sauer; sweets. Mesdames J. E. Trimen and L. H. Orbell; fish pond. St. John's girls’ club; supper, Mesdames W. J. Moore, W. J. Boston. P Surridge, L. Boulton and Miss J. Louden. The competitions were won as follows: Brass box, Mrs L. Boulter; cake. Nurse McKenzie: cake, Mrs S. Johnston (Orarl); chair. Mr A. Davey; cushion. Miss J. Louden: thimble. Master Norman Barker; doll. Beryl Stephens. Hat Trimming Competition— Miss June Gudsell (women). Mr H. South 1, Mr W. Hawke 2 (men). Cake baking competition, Mrs S Trumper 1. Mrs G. H. Stewart 2; coffee sponge, Mrs A. Davidson 1. Miss L. Cunningham 2. Bean guessing, Mrs S. Trumper (women), Mr W. Smith (men); Miss I. Trumper (girls). After supper, the room was cleared and dancing was Indulged in for the rest of the evening Mrs H. H. Hutchinson supplied the music for the dance; Miss M. White played an extra. Messrs E. Baldock and W. Hawke controlled the floor.
