PEEL FOREST

ST. BARNABAS GUILD. The monthly meeting of the St. Barnabas Guild was held in the Sunday School. Mrs G. Dennistoun presided, and the following members were also present—Mesdames J. M. H. Tripp, D. G. Rutherford, T. Stinson, W. E. Barker, W. Inglis, S. Uprltchard, G. Wooding, T. imith, O. Keen, Misses G. Wright, J. Cliffe, J. Wright, R. Blissett, R. Barker and M. Macphail. Stall-holders for the Guild's annual bazaar were appointed, and arrangements made for the side-shows. The appeal for eggs for St. Saviour’s Orphanage resulted in 44 dozen being collected. At the close of the meeting, afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs W. Inglis and Mrs T. Smith.

SOCIAL AND DANCE.

A social and dance was held in aid of the school funds. There was a large attendance. The card tournament prizes were won by Mrs R. Johnstone and Mr J. Lewis. The consolation prizes fell to Miss Dawnson and Mr C. Macphail. A competition for a cord of wood given by Mr W. Inglis was won by Mr E. Allan. During the evening Mr L. Heney suitably thanked the pubhc for their support, and also Mrs F. Claydon and Mr W. Inglis for giving prizes. After supper dancing was indulged in, the music for which was supplied by Mrs A. Taylor, Miss T. Turton, Messrs J. Chapman, A. Pringle and A. Popplewell. Mr W. Foster was master of ceremonies.

W.E.A.

The final meeting of the Peel Forest branch of the W.E.A. was held in the Library on Wednesday evening. The secretary, Mr D. G. Rutherford, gave a brief summary of the year's activities, and showed that after paying all expenses, there was a credit balance of £2/7/7. Out of this it was decided that £l/1/- be voted to the Canterbury College W.E.A. box scheme. A short one-act play was then read. Mr D. G. Rutherford, on behalf of the class, then presented Miss O. Stinson with a book of plays in appreciation of the great Interest, painstaking work, and able manner in which she had conducted the class during the year. Mr E. S. Foden also spoke, endorsing Mr Rutherford's remarks. The remainder of the evening was spent in games and competitions. Competition winners were Miss Morey and Mr F. Claydon. Miss O. Stinson provided supper, which she dispensed with the assistance of the lady members.
