The monthly meeting of the Rangitata Women's Institute was held in the Rangitata Island Hall. In the absence of Mrs Brodie, Mrs Chalmers (vice-president) presided. A special feature of the evening was a talk on the League of Nations by Mrs Low. of Timaru. Mrs Brodie and party were congratulated on winning the Drama League shield at the festival held in Timaru. The shield was on exhibition, and much admired. The members were reminded that at the November meeting the thrift article competition for the cup given by Mrs Brodie would be judged. The home competition for the best knitted article was won by Mrs S. Palmer and Miss K. Sugrue, equal. The hostesses’ competition was won by Miss A. Northam. The hostesses were Mesdames Geo. Palmer, Geo. Chalmers and Geo. Curry. Mrs Polaschek presided at a general meeting of the Rangitata Women’s Institute. Arrangements were completed for a party to be held at the end of the month. On the motion of Mrs Polaschek, Mrs Watts was asked to write to Mrs Scott and express regret at her long illness, and a hope that she would soon be well enough to attend the meetings again. It was also decided to start the folk dancing practices.
