AMERICA PACIFIC COAST TOURNAMENT. ENGLAND AND AUSTRALIAN STARS COMPETING. United Press Association—Bv Electrio Telegraph—Copyright LOS ANGELES, September 17. Quist and Turnbull had little difficulty in winning the opening round of the matches in the seventh* annual Pacific south-west tennis championships. Adrian Quist (Australia) defeated Farnham Warriner 6-2, 6-1. D. P. Turnbull (Australia) defeated Robert Sanford 6-3, 6-4. Both opponents were local players. In the opening games, both Australians found some difficulty in handling their shots on the concrete courts. Turnbull found his opponent’s hard bounding service on the concrete somewhat difficult to handle. Due to the lateness of the Australians’ arrival from the Grand Canyon they were given a “courtesy” win by default in the first round of the mixed doubles in order to keep up the schedule. Adrian Quist is paired with Miss Esther Bartosh (Los Angeles) and D. P. Turnbull with Miss Josephine Cruickshank (Santa Ana). F. J.
