THE WINTER ENSEMBLE.

Dressmaker suits and little fur jackets are so much to the forefront of fashion that the useful outfit—the ensemble—has been somewhat overlooked this winter despite the fact that it is so practical, and, especially for the older woman, the most becoming of all winter wear.

For the general wear in the really cold weather, nothing is so satisfactory and smart as a heavyweight tweed coat (well tailored, of course), and a skirt to match. With a neutral-toned tweed made up in this way, a woollen blouse or jumper in a contrasting colour, and a hat and accessories to match the jumper, make an outfit which will give months of wear, and look always smart and correct. The business girl will find it an invaluable investment.

For more formal wear, the ensemble which consists of a woollen frock and a topcoat of the same material is suitable to wear at any afternoon occasion. Black is always a good choice for this kind of ensemble, and it may be furtrimmed, as fur is used lavishly this season. If black is chosen, the frock to be worn underneath the coat could be trimmed with white lingerie vest and cuffs as a colour relief. The new dark wine shades as well as the many browns now fashionable would all be excellent for the coat and frock outfit.
