JUVENILE BEAUTY PARLOURS

PLUCKED EYEBROWS AT NINE Society misses s of nine, and even small boys, are eager patrons of the new beauty parlours for children opened by West End stores and specialists. Here they have their hair permanently waved, their eyebrows plucked, and their fingernails tinted—Just like mother does. The manageress of the hairdressing department of a London department store said to the “Sunday Chronicle”: “We have just opened a parlour for children. Mothers were bringing their small daughters so often that we found they were overrunning the adults’ section. “These children, have permanent waves, eyebrow plucking, manicures with tinted varhish, facial treatments, and lessons on the care of the complexion and hair. “Already we have to make it a strict rule that only children whose parents have made an appointment for them can be treated.” Another beauty specialist, who has premises in Bond Street, said she had been compelled to employ extra staff to attend to the increasing number of children who are brought in for beauty treatment. “Even small boys are brought in to be taught how to care for their hair and nails. “Modern children are self-possessed little people, and they take the new curriculum quite as a matter of course, sometimes making their own appointments for a wave or manicure and arriving alone for treatment.”
