The life of a song-leader is not a bed of roses. A typical example was mentioned by the Rev. R. J. Boyt at the community singing at the Theatre Royal, Hamilton, when he quoted a letter from three Hamilton young women, with a donation of three shillings for the privilege of calling him ■‘Jimmy.” A foot-note added that a further three shillings would be forwarded if he took them for a ride on the pillion of his motor-cycle Mr Boyt amid applause, laughingly commented he would take any Hamilton girl for a ride if it was going to bring in three shillings for the Welfare league
