the weather. Showery conditions continued throughout Saturday, although the weather cleared a little during the evening. Conditions were showery again early yesterday morning. football. The Geraldine Football Club's team defeated High School A by nine to five on a greasy ground at Geraldine on Saturday. J. Davies (two) and G. Paterson scored for the local team. The fifth grade team, which was three men short, was defeated by Star by 23 to nil, in the game at Ttmaru. The Club’s third grade team had a bye. SCHOOL FARM COMMITTEE. The first meeting of the Geraldine District High School Farm Committee was attended by Messrs A. W. Tucker (chairman), A. J. Burmister, W. H. Jackson, F. E. South, R. Volckman and G. Thorp (secretary). The secretary reported that the following farmers had shown the pupils over their farms—Messrs D. Davis, T. Watson, F. E. South and J, Wordsworth. The Domain, also, had been visited. Suggestions by the secretary for future farm visits were discussed. It was decided, with Mr F. E. South’s consent, to use his farm as a base for regular observations by pupils. Dairy and fruit farms were the only types of farms, other than the type general to the district, which were considered suited to the requirements of the agricultural course. Although the possibility of forming an agricultural science club in Geraldine was strongly discounted, it was considered a demand for a Youth’s Agricultural Club could be induced, and for assistance to this end, the secretary was instructed to approach the Agricultural Department and a fertiliser company. LECTURE TO EX-PUPILS. Under the auspices of the Geraldine Secondary Ex-Pupils’ Association, Mr A. W. Tucker, M.A., gave an address entitled “A Glimpse of the West Indies” in the Parish Hall on Friday evening. The address, which was the first of the series arranged by the Literary and Debating Section of the Association, attracted a good attendance of ex-pupils, and members of the staff and the senior pupils were also present. Mr Tucker, who resided for some years at Kingston, Jamaica, dealt in a most interesting manner with the history of the West Indies, and the manners and customs of the inhabitants. Interspersed with personal reminiscences and with humorous anecdotes, the address was keenly appreciated by the audience. In proposing a vote of thanks, which was carried by acclamation, the president of the Association (Mr H. W. W. Williamson) congratulated Mr Tucker on his competent handling of the subject, and expressed the appreciation of the audience. CROQUET CLUB CARD PARTY. The Geraldine Croquet Club conducted a euchre party in the Masonic Hall Refectory on Friday evening, when Mrs Woodhouse won the ladies’ prize, and Mr H. Ellis, the men’s prize. The consolation prizes were won by Mrs Walker and L. Ellis. CRIBBAGE TOURNEY. The following is to-morrow evening's draw for the Geraldine and District Cribbage Association’s tourney:— Oddfellows v.
