In the Amateur Golf Championship, J Michael Scott beat M. Schunk, 3 up and 1 to play. Tolley beat Holden, 2 up. In the semi-finals, Scott beat Dunlap, 4 up and 3. , T. The golf final was followed by a ; large crowd. < The veteran Scott took an early lead : in the first round, winning the first and third, and turned three up, with 38 to 42. He Increased this to five up in the second nine, chiefly owing to Bourn's indifferent putting. Scores: Scott 76, Bourn 82. In the second round Scott was seemingly tired. He lost the first two holes, but a fine four at the third, when he laid the approach putt dead, suggested a restoration of confidence. Bourn won the fourth and the next two exchanges. Bourn at the seventh failed with an Bft putt. Scott escaped with a half, and was still three up. He won the eighth, although bunkered and a perfect half at the ninth, left the veteran four up, with nine to play . Again at the tenth, Bourn's putting failed, and only a magnificent chip saved him at the eleventh, where Scott’s long putt for two hung on the lip of the hole. Scott was bunkered at the twelfth. Bourn was then four down, with six to play. The thirteenth and fourteenth were halved, when Scott was four up, with four to play. The fifteenth, where the match was ended, was halved in six. Scott being bunkered, and Bourn slicing into the rough, and dropping the next shot. Scores; Scott 67, Bourn 65. Hattersley won the amateur golf championship of New South Wales, defeating the youthful Alan Waterson, three up and one to play In the final at Kensington Links today. Hattersley established the good lead of five up in the morning round, and although Waterson came with a late run at the finish, he was unable to overtake the deficit. Hattersley was always very steady and accurate, showing perfect iron shots. Waterson, probably through nervousness, was Inclined to slice, but his play generally, was not up to the usual standard.
