ALBURY.
POSTAL OFFICER FAREWELLED. On Tuesday evening a number of residents of the Albury district gathered for the purpose of farewelling Mr Norman Thompson, who has been a member of the Post Office staff for the past four or five years. Mr W. G. Fraser, who presided, spoke in complimentary terms of the departing guests’ efficiency, and never-fail-ing courtesy, and of his general usefulness as a member of the community. Several others present endorsed the chairman’s remarks, and Miss Austin, on behalf of the residents presented Mr Thomson with an envelope enclosing a substantial cheque. Mr Thompson suitably acknowledged the gift, and the expressions of appreciation and goodwill which accompanied it. Mr Dick, on behalf of the residents extended a welcome to Mr Boyle, Mr Thompson’s successor. Mr Thompson left for Gore on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday a social evening was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Campbell, when a number of friends cf Mr N. Thompson, who was leaving for Gore, assembled to bid him farewell. A very pleasant evening was spent with music and cards. Mr Campbell expressed the regret of those present, at Mr Thompson’s departure, and extended to him their best wishes for the future. Mr Dick endorsed Mr Campbell’s remarks, and presented Mr Thompson, on behalf of those assembled that evening with a handsome casket of cigarettes. Mr Thompson thanked the gathering for its expression of goodwill. Mrs Dick thanked Mr and Mrs Campbell for the evening’s enjoyment they had provided. and a pleasant function was brought to a close with “Auld Lang Syne.”
