RESIDENTS’ BALLS

ORARI AND BELFIELD. The annual Orari and Belfield Residents’ ball, held in the Coronation Hall, Orari, on Friday evening, proved one of the most successful social functions held in the district for a considerable time. The floor was crowded to capacity with dancers from throughout the Orari and Geraldine district, and from Temuka and Timaru, and capable managership and a first-class orchestra combined to make a delightful evening’s entertainment. The hall was effectively decorated with streamers and balloons. Under the chairmanship of Mr A. Rysdale, with the assistance of the joint secretaries, Mrs W. Hughes, Miss M. Mason, and Mr A. Earl, a capable committee comprised of Mesdames A. Rysdale, M. Watson, Misses M. Dixon, r" Killoh, I. Smith, and Messrs D. O’Neill, A. Black, B. Hewson, and E, Burke, spared no effort to ensure the success of the ball, and the large attendance and happy nature of the function proved an ample reward. In addition to the duties of the secretary, Mr A. Earl acted as Master of Ceremonies. Mr H. C. Brenton relieved Mr Earl for several dances. Extras were played by Mrs G. Birdling and Miss Blissett.

Supper was handed round, and the distribution of apples twice during the evening gave a welcome respite to the dancers.
