TARIFF BARRIERS
AMERICA DESIRES REDUCTION. British Official Wireless RUGBY, June 22. The United States' delegation tabled a resolution in the Economic Commission of the World Economic Conference to-day, designed to lay a foundation for a gradual reduction and removal of artificial trade barriers. It asks the Conference to agree that a policy of economic nationalism is against common interest: that all moved completely, and quickly, and that tariff barriers should be reduced as soon as possible by reciprocal, bilateral or multilateral agreements, which should contain no discriminatory features likely to react unfavourably on world trade as a whole. The Brazilian delegation submitted a proposal to the Economic Commission that coffee should be included among the foodstuffs internationally organised to maintain an equilibrium between production and consumption
