BIG RELIEF LOAN
MAYORS BOLD PROPOSAL. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, June 8. At the City Council meeting last | evening the Mayor, the Rev. E. T. Cox. suggested a loan of £70,000 for use this I year to provide materials for permanent works and increasing unemployed 1 wages. He said they were now spending £130,000 annually, with little permanent result. Additional wages was an urgent question for. lacking necessities, the people would become bitter, and an adequate wage was an insurance against disorder. Tlie Mayor’s proposals, which suggested works to be undertaken, were referred to the Finance Committee.
