REASON FOR THE ATTACK.
VIGOROUS SEARCH FOR ASSASSIN United Pi css Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received June 8. 12.50 a.m.) LONDON, June 7. M. Venizelos’s personal guard travelling in the car, died of wounds. The chauffeur, though badly wounded, pluckily continued to Athens, despite one tyre having been punctured by bullets, twenty of which struck the car. Madame Venizelos was formerly Helen Schilizzi, a member of the wellknown Greek family in England. She married M. Venizelos in 1921. It is believed that vengeance for the executions during his premiership was the motive for the attack. The Premier (M. Tsaldaris) is personally directing the search for the assailants.
