Bread should not be left in its wrapping in the crock. Rest it on a wire-mesh pan stand, under which you have placed about a dozen pieces of loaf sugar to absorb the moisture. ‘ Walnut furniture that has the new dull finish should be kept in condition by wiping it down with a flannel tightly wrung out of soapy water. Be sure the soap contains no alkali to injure the wood.
Aluminium teapots can be freed from tannin by washing well in hot soapy water and then scrubbing with steel wool and a special soap prepared for aluminium cleaning. If the teapot Is always washed in hot soapy water and rinsed in boiling water after using the formation of tannin will be prevented.
A preparation for cleaning doorsteps outside may be made as follows:—Dissolve Jib of powdered glue in li pints of simmering water; stir in lib of powdered whiting. Apply with a stiff brush. The mixture will retain its
colour and it may be washed with water when soiled. Tea stains on blankets can be removed by using a warm borax solution —loz of the powder to one pint of warm water. Twist the stained part between the fingers and saturate thoroughly with cold water. Squeeze and then dip into the solution. Leave until cold and then rinse thoroughly in clear, warm water. Repeat if necessary.
