THE SALES TAX
REGULATIONS DELAYED. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, March 27. In connection with the licensing of the wholesalers and manufacturing retailers under the Sales Tax Act, it Is announced that unforeseen difficulties have arisen, which have delayed the gazetting of the necessary regulations, prescribing the forms to be used. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates states that the Government is desirous that the particulars required by the forms should, as far as possible, be readily obtainable from the existing accounting books of the various classes of taxpayers concerned. This has necessitat--d a considerable amount of inquiry, and consequent delay, in issuing the regulations. It is expected that the regulations will be issued at an early date, but in view of the circumstances it is indicated that no action will be taken by the Government merely because persons have not been duly licensed, provided that applications for licenses are received by the Collectors of the Sales Tax within 21 days after the gazetting of the regulations.
