Jennings, Oamaru, and Mrs D. H. Jennings, Christchurch. A delightful evening was held at the home of" Mr and Mrs Bishop, Cameron Street, on Saturday, when about forty friends gathered to honour Miss Evelyn Simmons, and Mr Norman Young, whose marriage will shortly take place. The function, which took the form of a “kitchen evening,” was spent in games, competitions and dancing. Prior to opening the parcels, Mrs Bishop presented Miss Simmons with a bouquet; and; on behalf of the guests wished them both every success and happiness. Mr Young suitably replied. On behalf of those present Mr W. Turner thanked the hosts for their kindness and generosity in making the evening :uch a success. The singing of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellow's,” and “Auld Lang Syne,” brought the happy function to a close.

Princess Margaret Rose, who spent a very happy Christmas holiday with her parents and her Royal grandparents at Sandringham, is beginning to grow cut of the toddling stage already. As a number of holiday makers were able to see when she and her sister left London for Sandringham by train with the King and Queen, she now' walks well and sturdily, holding Mrs Knights, the Duchess of York’s faithful nurse, by the hand. In contrast to Princess Eliabeth’s golden curls. Princess Margaret’s hair is dark and softly fluffy like her mother’s, and her blue eyes shine out with special appeal from a dainty little white fur bonnet, worn with white leggings, white gloves and a sky-blue velvet coat. The yellow outfit of coat and leggings that the Duchess has chosen for Princess Elizabeth this winter has been copied by literally hundreds of American mothers, w'ho are amazed at its simplicity. With this for special occasions Princess Elizabeth has a yellow' tweed cap worn backward on her curls.
