THE WEATHER, A steady drizzle continued throughout Saturday morning, but conditions improved during the afternoon. No cricket was played on Saturday and it was too damp for tennis, but conditions were ideal for golf. GOLF CLUB OPENING. The official opening of the Geraldine Golf Club for the season was held on Saturday afternoon, when there was a large attendance of members and friends. Conditions were overcast, but ideal for golf. The visitors included representatives of the Timaru and Pleasant Point Golf Clubs Prior to making the first drive for the season, the president (Mr J. D. McKechnie) extended a cordial welcome to members and friends. Mr McKechnie remarked that the members of the Greens Committee reported that the course was in good playing condition, and he concurred entirely with their opinion. He trusted that all would enjoy their games that afternoon, and that the season would be a most successful one. (Applause.) A hidden partner competition was played during the afternoon, Miss E. Mellroy and D. Macdonald (100) securing first place, and Miss M. Grant and G. Glen (103) second place. Mrs D. C. Williamson and G. N. Feilden, Miss Roberts and E. P. Bennett, and Mrs G. I. Plimmer and C. W. Lynn (110) tied for third place, and in the play-off Mrs D. C. Williamson and G. N. Feilden were successful. The trophies were presented by the president (Mr McKechnie).
