METROPOLITAN STOCK SALES. BETTER PRICES FOR FAT LAMBS AND EWES. By T«*leE;rftph— Press Association CHRISTCHUTtCH, January 18. Values at Adding-ton market to-day showed little change. The fat lamb and ewe schedule for export improved during- the week, and this-was reflected in slightly better prices in those sections.

Store sheep.—The stores for the most part comprised lambs, and forward sorts sold at better quotations. Forward mixed sex lambs made 9/- to 10/6. medium do 7/3 to 8/9, ordinary do 6 - to 7/-. culls 4/6 to 5/9; ordinary half-bred wether lambs 5/9 to 6/-. Fat lambs.—A total of 4300 was penned. Best sorts brought 45d per lb. with 37-42 s and seconds up to 4u. Best lambs made up to 16/-, prime 13/6 to 14/6, others 9/6 to 12/6. Fat sheep.—A smaller entry met better prices for ewes, with wethers firm at last week's rates. Best wethers sold at 3£d, and ewes at 13d per ib. Extra prime heavy wethers brought up to 16/7, prime heavy wethers 14/- to 15/-, medium weight do 12/- to 13/6. ordinary 10/6 to 11/6, light 8/8 to 10/-; show ewes to 15/1. extra prime heavy ewes to 13/6, prime heavy ewes 10/- to 11/6, medium weight prime ewes 8/- to 9/6, ordinary 7/- to 3/-, light 5/- to 6/9. Fat cattle.—ln another heavy entry of 375 head, the quality was mixed, j The sale was a hard one, with a fur- i ther weakening in values for plain steers and inferior cows. Prime beef was worth 17/6 to 19/- per 1001 b. heavy weight end medium steer beef 14/6 to 17/-, medium cow beef 11/- to 13/-, inferior down to 8/-. Extra prime heavy steers made up to £9/12/-, prime heavy steers £5 to £B/5/-, prime medium weight steers £4/15/- to £6/s'-, ordinary quality £3/5/- to £4/10/-, light to £3; extra prime heifers to £7 7/6, prime heifers £4 to £5/15/-, ordinary £2/10/- to £3/15/-, l ght to £2; extra prime cows to £7/2/6. prime cows £3/10/- to £5. ordinary £2/5/- to £3 5/-, light £l/10/- t-0 £2. Fat pigs.—A medium entry met an improved sale for good baconers, but porkers were unchanged. Choppers realised 22/6 to 48 6, baconers 32/6 to £2/9/6 (average 3ld to 33d); porkers 19/6 to 27/6 (average 33d to 4d). BURNSIDE SALE. FAT STOCK PRICES FIRM. By Telecraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, January 18. Light ewes sold at advanced rates at i Burnside to-day, while fat cattle realised late rates, and the lamb market was firm. Fat cattle.—The entry numbered 221 head, including several consignments of extra prime heavy bullocks, and light but good quality sorts. A large number of cows were forward, but very few heifers. The sale opened a shade easier than last week, and at the start prime ox beef was worth about 20/- per 1001 b. As the sale advanced, a slight improvement was noticeable, choice cattle bringing up to 21/- per 1001 b. Light plain bullocks sold to 20/-, and heifers were worth 20/- per 1001 b. There was a slump in aged cows, which were worth from 13/6 to 14/6 per 100 lb. Best bullocks sold up to £9, and another line averaged £B/10/-. The balance of the bullocks realised from £6/10/- to £7/10/-. Cows and heifers brought from £3/10/to £5. Store cattle.—There was a poor yarding of store cattle. Two pens >f aged steers averaged £4/10/-, two-yea:;-old steers brought from £2/10/- to C2 15/-. Aged cows which made up the balance of the entry sold at from £1 10/- to £3. Fat sheep.—ln a penning of about 2200 sheep, there were several trucks of medium wethers, but the bulk consisted of ordinary ewes, with one pen of extra prime ewes. Extra heavy wethers were cheaper by about 1/6 a head. Light weights sold at prices equal to last week’s rates. Owing to the presence of freezing buyers, all light ewes advanced by 1/- to 1/6 a head in value. The highest price paid for wethers was for several pens at 15/6, but the balance sold at from 12 6 to 14/9. Extra choice ewes brought from 10/9 to 12/-, and the bulk of the ewes realised from 7/9 to 9/-. Prime wether mutton was worth 2id, anl ewes Ud to 2d per lb.

Fat lambs. —There was a splendid entry of fat lambs, and there was :< good sale. Light lambs were 1/- a head dearer, and other grades were firm. Best lambs sold up to 16/-, light 11/- to 13/6. Pigs.—ln the pig pens their were 155 fats and 122 stores. The entry included good quality bacon pigs and porkers, and the prices realised were about on a par with those of the previous sale. Bacon pigs were worth 4d and porkers 5d per lb. GERALDINE STOCK SALE. There was a moderate yarding with prices at current rates at the Geraldine sale yesterday. Fat lambs showed a slight improvement in prices on the previous sale. A pen of 35 good quality lambs was’ disposed of at 13 6. while another pea of G 1 changed hands at the same figure. Three lambs were knocked down at 13/3, and 17 at 13/2. Four fat ewes were disposed of at 7 and two lots of six and twelve changed hands at 6/7. Prices were as follow: Fat Sheep—ll ewes at C/5, 6 at 6/7, 12 at 6/1, 20 at 6/2, 12 at G 7, 14 at 6 4, 14 at 6,3, 21 at 6. 4. 29 at 6 2, 4 at 7/-, 20 at 5 11, 6 at 6 3; 19 lambs at 9 6, 3 at 13/3. 17 at 10 5. 27 at 9 -. 20 at 11.3. 61 at 13 6. 35 at 13 6, 42 at 13/-, 52 at 10 10. 46 at 11 4. 42 at 11/10, 57 at 7 3. 17 at 13/2, 74 at 12/-, 31 at 11 3. 55 a: 11 -. Stores —Three two-tooth ewes at 8 3, 9 wethers at 14/-. Cattle—2 fat steers at £4 15s, 1 bull at £l, 1 fat cow at £3 15s, 2 steers at £2 2s 6d.
