CHRISTCHURCH REPORT. By Telegraph-Bres* Association CHRISTCHURCH, January 18. More lines of oats have been offered during the week. The sample is good all through, being bright and weighing well. Values are inclined to ease, to-day's quotation being Is 4d to Is 5d on trucks. Reports of lower prices than Is 4d for Algerians have not been confirmed. Reports of high yields have come to hand, one farmer in MidCanterbury securing 88 bushels of Algerians to the acre. Another report of 100 bushels is unconfirmed. A number of lines of Italian ryegrass have been offered. The price remains at Is Gd a bushel on trucks. Potatoes are quoted nominally at 45s a ton on tracks, but no inquiry is coming from the north. Spread fowl wheat—April-September —is being offered at 3s 7d f.0.b., but little business is being done. The following are quotations for new season’s produce to be paid to farmers, on trucks, free of commission, sacks extra, except where otherwise stated: Wheat (interim payment)—Tuscan 3s 4d. Hunters 3s 6d, Pearl Cs Bd, all f.ob.; fowl wheat 3s 7d f.0.b., spread, April-September. Oats—Algerian Is 4d to Is 5d a bushel. Italian ryegrass—to Is 6d a bushel. Perennial ryegrass—ls 6d a bushel. Potatoes (nominal) —£2 5s a ton on trucks. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. SOUTH CANTERBURY MARKETS. The weather during the early part of the week, followed by the -or’wester, has brought the harvest forward, and during the past two days, a start has been made with the harvesting of early wheat crops. Previously a few oat crops had been cut. The rain on Tuesday night also proved very beneficial. Wheat.—All milling wheat is now under control, and is to be purchased by the Wheat Purchase Board. Merchants in future will only act as brokers under the scheme. The prices will be Tuscan 3/4, Hunters 3 6 and Velvet 3/8, with increments later on. Fowl wheat.—Early last week sales were made at 3/9 f.0.b.. but after the fixation of milling prices, the price of fowl v/heat dropped to 3/7. Buyers’ idea of value to-day is 3/6, but there are no sellers at the price. At present the North Island is being supplied with fowl wheat from Blenheim.

Oats. —A grades are quoted at 2/21 and B's at 2/-. However, buyers are content to wait until the market settles down before purchasing. Algerians have been purchased at 1 6 on trucks, but even at this price it is difficult to find buyers. One or two lines of Duns have been threshed in the district. The nominal value is 1/6 to 19 a bushel. Barley.—A lev; odd lines have been threshed, but so far there is no business passing. Chaff.—The nominal quotation is £2/5/- on trucks.

Potatoes.—With the weak state of the Auckland market, there is practically no business passing. The nominal quotation is £2/5/- on trucks. Present indications are said to be that Auckland will be well supplied until June.

Grass seeds.—This year there has been a big quantity of ryegrass shut up for seed purposes. The price at present is 1/6 to 19. according to quality. Italians and Western WoltJx' have realised 1/3 on trucks. It will be some time before any eowgrass is threshed, and as there is no seed forward. no business has been done. There was a fair carry-over of crested dogstail, and machine-dressed old seed has been offered at a very low figure.
