EMPIRE RADIO

NEW STATION IN ENGLAND British Offlnial Wlrelcs* (Received September 30, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, September 29. It is expected that the first broadcast from the new Empire short wave station, being constructed at Doventry, by the British Broadcasting Corporation, will take place on Christmas Day. when an effort will be made to transmit part of the home programme round the world. The station will begin its tests in a few weeks, but the complete service will not be established until next year. The decision to construct a wireless station for broadcasting throughout the Empire was made known ten months ago. The station is estimated to cost £40,000 and maintenance £42,000 per year.
