CROQUET.

ASHBURY CLUB. The annual meeting of the Ashbury Croquet Club was held in the pavilion on Monday, the president, Mrs H. Solomon, presiding over a good attendance of members. The report and balance sheet showed that the Club was in a very satisfactory position, expenses being kept down as low as possible. The president, in her report, stated that the past year had been a most successful one, and financially the Club was very sound. Donations of £lO were given the the South Canterbury Central Relief and £1 Is to St. Saviour’s Orphanage Wireless Fund, these amounts being the proceeds of euchre parties held in members’ homes. The membership list stood at 38, but four resignations had been received. However, it was hoped that new members would be forthcoming to balance these resignations. It was with deep regret that the Club lost, by death, one of its promising members in Mrs McKitterick, who would be much missed during the coming season. The matches last season were keenly contested, and the C team were successful in winning the C Grade Flag, winning every match in this section. Several improvements were made during the year, the most appreciated Lr.ing the shelter seats erected on the greens, and thanks were due to Mrs F. Lewis for her kindness in presenting one of these seats. The Club sustained a great loss in the death of Mr D. N. Harper, who so willingly and capably looked after the greens. It was agreed that the opening day should be October 12. Mrs Walter Panton was elected the first life member of the Club, in recognition of her assistance since its foundation. The election of officers for the ensuing season was as follows:—President, Mrs H. Solomon; vice-president, Mrs P. B. Fcote; secretary, Mrs V. H. Panton; treasurer, Mrs L. Edyvean; captain, Mrs H. Patchett; vice-captain, Mrs H. Allchurch; general committee, Mesdames A. C. Martin, Leslie, L. James, Keay and J. Moyes; tea committee, Mesdames Brickell (convener), J. G. Jowsey, Graham and Davey; match committee, Mesdames Patchett, Allchurch and Foote; grounds committee, Mesdames Mason (convener), Brickell and Leslie; delegates to S.C.C.A., Mesdames Patchett and Pan ton.

A vote of thanks was passed to Mr C. G. Baker for his services as hon. auditor.
