In the second round of the tennis tournament, Perry defeated PerrySmarty, 6-2, 6-4. Austin defeated Laurison Driscoll, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Sat oh defeated Chaples Larkin, 6-1, 6-0. In the first round, Austin defeated Ted Lilienthal (San Francisco), 6-2, 6-1. Perry defeated Clarence McCann (San Francisco), 6-1, 6-1. Satoh defeated Earl Weller (San Francisco), 6-1, 6-1. TE KARA CLUB. The annual meeting of the Te Kara Tennis Club, held in the South School on Monday, was presided over by Mr V. Keay. The annual report and balance sheet, showing a credit balance of £ll/1/2, were adooted. Votes of thanks were accorded Mrs Miller, Miss Scott, Messrs T. W. Satterthwaite and W. G. Hawkey for donations to the Club. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr T. W. Satterthwaite; president, Mr J. O’Connor; vice-presidents, Mrs Miller, Messrs A. W. Anderson, W. J. Dickson, W. G. Hawkey, and V. Keay; club captain, Mr W. Clark; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. Coker; assistant secretary, Miss J. Heaton; committee, Misses D. Heaton, E. Leckie, D. Ayres, N. McNab, Messrs P. Toban, R. D. Hay, M. O’Connor and J. Horloch. The subscriptions were fixed on the same basis as last year. It was decided to ask the Mayor to open the courts for the season on October 15.
The following resolution was passed “That the Timaru Borough Council be written to asking that they erect a summer house on the courts, or as an alternative to alter the present pavilion to meet the requirements of the Te Kara Tennis Club by closing the present doorway and opening a new doorway on the north side and erecting a verandah.” A letter was received from the Baptist Tennis Club, asking that a delegate be sent to a meeting to be held on October 3rd, and it was decided that Mr W. Clarke be sent to represent the Club.
It was decided to forward a letter from the Club to Miss A, Scott, sympathising with her in her illness and wishing her a speedy recovery. A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring secretary, Miss M. Harper, for her work during the season.
It was decided that the selection committee consist of the captain, secretary, and Miss D. Heaton, and that the ladder be run on the same lines as last season. One new member was elected. A donation of 5/- was made to the South School Committee for the use of the room.
