Mrs Gordon Coull, Christchurch, Is staying with her mother, Mrs McPhail, Wai-iti Road. Mrs C. Bowker, Sarah Street, is on a visit to her daughter, Mrs A. C. Stephens, Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Kent are staying with Mrs Young, “Brookfields,” Winchester. Messrs T. W. West and S. R. Evison, who were guests at the Balmoral, have returned to Christchurch.

Miss Mary Pratt, Dunedin, a soloist at the orchestral concert to-night, will arrive to-day to stay with Mrs A. L. Marshall, Beverley Road.

Mrs Harold Abraham, Dunedin, who is staying with Mrs Gladstone Robinson, “Oakwood," will return south today.

Miss Paterson, of the Southland Aero Club, flew to Timaru yesterday to be present at the Air Pilots’ dance last night.

The interesting news has arrived that the Hon. Mrs Ralph Vane, who has many friends in South Canterbury, is leaving London shortly for Hollywood. She is accompanying her great friend Mrs R. Barclay, whose clever soldier husband and playwright is booked to produce Noel Coward’s famous “Cavalcade” with an English cast. Captain Barclay is the writer of “French Leave” and “The White Chateau."

A large number of people assembled at the Howard Hall, Arundel, on the occasion of the fortnightly social. The lady’s prize was won by Miss Hope, and the men's by Mr Kelland. The consolation prizes were awarded to Miss Duffy and Mr W. Foster. Music was supplied by Mrs M. Metcalf and Misses F. McQuiggan and Gould and Mr A. Lewis. Mr W. Foster was M.C.

A pleasant evening was held by the Woodbury Library Committee in the Woodbury Hall on Friday, when a euchre evening was held in aid of the library funds. Prizes were won by ladies, Mrs Valentine and Mrs Keen; men, Mr Meynell and Mr McKenzie. A special prize was won by Mrs Meynell. A very successful bridge drive, organised by the South Canterbury branch of the National Council of Women, w 7 as held in the South Canterbury Women’s Club room on Tuesday evening. 'me letters T.A.P.C., on a black background, the badge of the Timaru Air Pilot’s Club, was a feature in the decorations of the Bay rooms last night, when, to celebrate the opening of the Club, the members held a very enjoyable cabaret. The decorations were carried out in a novel style. Myriads of tiny streamers woven in and out were stretched across the ceiling. At one end hung the two silver wings of an aeroplane, surmounted by the Club’s badge, and decorated with the Club’s colours, black and silver, were ranged along the wall.

The committee—Messrs W. E. Clarke, R. Richards, B. Watt, G. Buckley, A. Craig and E. D. Moore — were untiring in their efforts to make the cabaret an enjoyable one, and with the usual efficiency of airmen they saw that everyone had a good time. Two prizes, aeroplane trips round Timaru, donated by New Zealand Airways, were given for the winners of a statue dance and of a Monte Carlo dance.
