COMING CONFERENCE IN CANADA. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright OTTAWA, January 26. The Canadian Government has communicated with the British Ministry and the other Dominions suggesting a tentative date for the opening of the Imperial Conference. Until all replies are in no definite date can be set. The third week in July is regarded as likely, unless some part of the Empire finds it unsuitable. USE OF EMPIRE TIMBER. APPEAL TO PUBLIC BODIES. Emphasising the advantage foreign timbers hitherto enjoyed, through suitability, cheapness, care in preparation, grading, conditioning and research, Mr J. R. Cosgrove, Government Forest Research Laboratory, lecturing at the Royal Society of Arts, remarked that the initiative of public bodies, backed by the Empire Marketing Board’s efforts, had led to increasing the use of Empire timbers. Mr Cosgrove paid a special tribute to the neautiful Australian timbers suitable for veneers, and others for furniture, joinery, and flooring, also New Zealand’s, notably kauri, for flooring.
