The death is announced of Sir Alfred Yarrow, whose use of a steam-driven motor-car in 1861, was responsible for the Act ordering mechanical road vehicles to be preceded by a man carrying a red flag. P. J. SMALL, By Telegraph—Press Association PALMERSTON N., Jan. 25. The death occurred suddenly to-day of Mr P. J. Small, aged 56. A long list of public offices held by deceased included the Unemployment Board 1930-31; Kairanga County Council (ex-chairman); Manawatu Drainage Board (ex-chairman); Dairy Farmers’ Union (ex-president;; Mana-watu-Oroua Power Board; Rural Credits Association; First Council of the Dairy Control Board; and many minor bodies. R. W. PRICE. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, January 25. The death occurred suddenly this afternoon of Robert William Price, aged 74 years. He was well known throughout New Zealand as a volunteer fireman, and was captain of the old South Dunedin Volunteer Brigade from 1881 to 1917. He was connected with the old Dunedin Navals for forty odd years. At one time Mr Price was senior vicepresident of the United Fire Brigades’ Association, and altogether he served 51 years in the Dunedin fire service. G. J. BLACK. By Telegraph—Press Association GISBORNE, January 25. The death is announced of Mr Gracen J. Black, sheepfarmer, aged 82 years. He was resident in this district for 27 years and was formerly of Christchurch and Akaroa. He was a noted authority on the early history of New Zealand. In his younger days he was a keen yachtsman. W. H. L. FOSTER. By Telegraph— Press Association WELLINGTON, January 25. The death is announced of Mr W. H. L. Foster, CM.G., a retired headmaster. For many years he was headmaster of the Clyde Quay School, Wellington. He was in the education service for a period of 46 years. For some time he had been secretary for the Wellington Provincial Council of the licensed trade.
