(CHAMPION TOURNEY CONCLUDED bremner and hardley win PAIRS. By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, January 25. The New Zealand Bowling Association’s annual tournament concluded today, when the pairs championship was decided. A nor’west gale made good bowling impossible, the bowls refusing to maintain their bias. On many occasions a likely looking bowl was brought to a stop some distance from the head. Post sectional play resulted: Hardly 19 v. Shaw 15. Deare 22 v. Wilson 11. Semi-Finals. Haworth 22 v. Deare 8. Hardley 20 v. Marlin 19. Final. W. Bremner and C. Hardley (West End, Auckland) 25, v. W. G. Ives and R. Haworth (Canterbury) 9. The Play by Heads. The Canterbury pair scored singles on the first tw r o heads. Third Heat.—Good bowling by Ives and Haworth saw them lying four shots and Hardley failed to draw and save. Fourth Head. —Hardley, with his last bowl, played a brilliant trail for five. Fifth Head.—There was fine leading by Ives, and Canterbury were four up when the players changed ends. Hardley shifted the kitty, but Canterbury 6till had three. Sixth Head.—Auckland were three down until Hardley drew the shot and Haworth failed to run it off. Haworth 9, Hardley 7. Seventh Head.—Bremner drew two, but Ives got a rub and rolled in to shot. Bremner was narrow with his next, but the wind held it up and he trailed for three. Haworth put the kitty out of bounds with his second bowl. Replay.—Bremner had two shots on Ives and Hardley added a third. Haworth failed in four attempts to take the kitty through for three. Eighth Head. —Through failing to take his lead’s advice. Haworth gave Auckland six. He was only one down —a shot drawn by Hardley. Ives warned Haworth of the danger of a trail, but the skip played his own shot, shifting the kitty to give Auckland six. Ninth Head. —Hardley promoted one of his own bowls into shot. To run it off was worth two or three to Haworth, but he was narrow. Tenth head—Hardley brilliantly rested Ives for the shot. Haworth, with a yard on, tried to push the shot through with his last,, but he was too wide. Hardley 18, Haworth 9. Eleventh head—lves was over the head with all four shots, and Bremner had four counters, although there was plenty of room to draw. Auckland were lying five, but Haworth, with his third bowl, wicked in, and lay third. With his last he shot the kitty out of bounds. Replay—Good leading was seen in this head- -■ Canterbury were one down, but Ives was unluey in trailing, giving Auckland three. Haworth missed three drives, but with his last he touched the head lightly, and saved two. Hardley 19, Haworth 9. Twelfth head—lves drew three shots and Haworth added a fourth, but Hardley with his third drew the shot. Haworth missed in an attempt to run it off for five. Thirteenth head—Canterbury were lying two shots until Hardley cut them out. Hawarth played a short trail for two, but Hardley put the kitty out of bounds. Bremner and Hardley won 25-9.
